At the headquarters in Brake and via video conference, the new trainees were welcomed by the Executive Board and welcomed to the L.I.T. Group.
With 37 apprentices, the L.I.T. Group has started the new apprenticeship year with more newcomers than ever before. Nineteen budding forwarding and logistics services clerks, ten warehouse logistics specialists, three professional drivers, four office management clerks and one IT specialist for application development were welcomed on the first day of their training by the Executive Board of the northern German logistics specialist today. For the first time, the Holzminden location is training office management clerks. The same applies to the Germersheim location, where trainees will also be trained in the future as forwarding and logistics services clerks. Rinteln is now recruiting prospective warehouse logistics specialists.
»Despite the more difficult application and recruitment process during the pandemic, we managed to top the number of new entrants from previous years«, says Astrid Jonat, Head of Training L.I.T. AG. In addition to the cancellation of training fairs and school visits, the company has also had to do without the usual large selection groups in Brake and Bremen. Instead, interviews were conducted by video call at some locations. Accordingly, the selection process took longer than in previous years. »Nevertheless, we have been able to recruit promising talent in good time«, continues Jonat. L.I.T. is particularly pleased that more and more women want to learn the profession of professional driver and warehouse logistics specialist. Two trainees joined L.I.T. via a six to ten-month introductory training programme.
Today’s first working day of the young talents was partly organised by their colleagues from the third year of apprenticeship. After the welcome by L.I.T. Chairman of the Board Fokke Fels and Executive Board Members Simeon Breuer, Julian Lachnitt and Ingo Schreiber at the headquarters in Brake, which was attended by the trainees from the other sites, and a briefing on the Coronavirus measures to be taken into account, the newcomers learned about the group of companies, the individual departments and their processes, and finally each other. Together they visited the warehouse, inspected the company’s own trainee truck and had lunch together.
Already on the second day, the programme for the newcomers includes training on how to use the IT systems, and a seminar on the topic of quality management, information and processes related to training as well as telephone training. On the third day, the trainees are welcomed by their mentors, who will look after them closely for the next two months, and shown to their new workplace.
Training as a vehicle for attracting skilled workers is becoming increasingly relevant in the face of industry-wide staff shortages, Jonat said. »That is why we are very keen to offer the young people not only a professional working environment in which they can grow, but also a sense of togetherness away from the daily work routine«. Numerous sports activities and events such as barbecues and cabbage-eating tours are also part of the L.I.T. training plan. For this commitment to junior staff training, the Oldenburg Chamber of Industry and Commerce awarded the L.I.T. Group the seal of quality »TOP Training Company«.
